Dr. Adamson continues to be invited nationally and internationally to speak about and demonstrate his facial aesthetic surgery techniques. In February 2013 he was an invited guest speaker to the Pan Asia Facial Plastic Surgery Conference in Mumbai, India and in May was the only Canadian surgeon speaking at the International Advanced Rhinoplasty Course at the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery held in Chicago. He was also a Visiting Professor to the University of Calgary in April, speaking on rhinoplasty and scar revision. Upcoming trips include speaking engagements as faculty at the world’s largest cosmetic surgery symposium in Las Vegas in July and the European Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery annual meeting in Oslo, Norway in August.
In addition, Dr. Adamson traveled to Washington, DC, in June as Senior Advisor to the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He acted as an examiner to certify surgeons in the specialty, a role which he repeated in London, England in July as President of the International Board for Certification in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. These boards examine certified practising surgeons who wish to achieve the highest certification standards available.
The Continuing Education of Dr. Adamson
Did you know that physicians and surgeons in Canada need to complete at least 400 hours of continuing medical education every five years? This works out to about two full weeks of education updates every year. These requirements are met through attendance at meetings, reading medical journals, completing home study courses, etc. Many academic surgeons like Dr. Adamson easily meet and surpass these basic requirements. The goal of these studies is to stay abreast of the rapid advances in medical knowledge – this is currently doubling every 18 months – so that you, our patients, can be assured of the very highest quality of advanced, safe and reliable care. In 2007, Dr. Adamson voluntarily completed the maintenance of competence recertification process of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery by successfully completing a written and oral examination. Our nurses in the office and operating room also regularly re-certify in Advanced Trauma and Life Support (ATLS) and nursing continuing medical education programs.
