Face the Future Foundation fundraising dinner another success!

DSC_0022On May 14, 2013, 80 friends and supporters of the Face the Future Foundation met for an evening of fine dining and friendship at the new Vita Sociale Ristorante in midtown Toronto. The restaurant, previously known as Centro and a Toronto landmark for fine dining for 25 years, had recently reopened with a new brand.

Jeremy Geyer, the manager at Vita Sociale, put together a unique dinner with fine wine pairings. The evening’s MC was Gordon Henderson of 90th Parallel Productions. Gordon also introduced the recently-produced video which captured the success and highlights of the January, 2013, mission to Kigali, Rwanda. The video showed images of the children whose lives had been forever altered by major reconstructive facial surgery and also the reflections of the mission surgeons as to the impact of the Foundation’s work in Kigali.

Following the dinner Dr. Adamson reviewed the Foundation’s missions of the previous year to the Bonum Centre in Ekaterinburg, Russia, which represented the 20th anniversary of the original mission to that centre. And also the previously mentioned 10 team missions to Kigali. Upcoming missions to Ulyanovsk, Russia, a return to Kigali and potential missions in South America were described. Following Dr. Adamson, Dr. Jeremy Warner, a plastic surgeon from Chicago who was a previous clinical fellow Dr. Adamson, spoke about his commitment and contribution to the Foundation. Jeremy raised $5,000 by obtaining donations through his Wisconsin Ironman race held in September, 2012. Notwithstanding his rigorous 5 year surgical training, Jeremy said it was the most difficult thing he has ever done. The evening concluded with a very lively live auction with auctioneer Joe Sheehan. Along with the contributions from the silent auction the Foundation is well placed to reach its mission goals for the coming year.

We would like to recognize Dale McIntosh, our event planner, for making evening such a success, and as well the contributions of Melanie Lovering, the Face the Future Foundation’s Executive Director.
